I’ve always admired people with an independent spirit, and Jac’s story about how she started her business is evidence of this.
In case you haven’t had a chance to read it, here’s a little about the designer behind the brand The Rushing Hour. Or read the full designer interview here.
1. What’s one thing people might not know about you?
Well, there’s plenty, but two significant things stand out. I’m an illegal 2nd child born during the 1 child policy in China in 1982 when it was just released. I had to call my Auntie ‘Mum’ until I was 4 years old.
It might sound alarming, but I got hit by a bus at age 24 on Mother’s Day, and lost my right eye sight due to a fractured optical nerve. As much as it might be seen as difficult, I actually left the hospital 4 weeks later almost fully recovered and came out a much happier person.
2. What was the first piece of significant clothing you bought?
A scarf from Shanghai Tan. Plus a black tailored trench dress, black pants and black waist suit from my dear friend and designer Dhini Pararajasingham.
3. Who do you shop with when it’s not your own product?
Love love love Everlane, when they offer free international shipping. Slight guilt purchase at Uniqlo, because it’s fast fashion. But I’m still wearing the same pants I bought there 10 years ago. I also like Cos and Alexander Wang occasionally.
